On July 1st 2010, analogue transmission of television programming over the airwaves in the Republic of Estonia will come to an end. Television programmes will thenceforth be transmitted in digital form, in the DVB-T format.
Considering the technically complicated nature of digital reception, and the large number of corresponding receivers and formats used, the Government Committee for Transition to Terrestrial Digital Television has developed a special symbol – Digilevi – for labelling television receivers that are compatible with the networks used for transmitting Estonian national television programme services. The economic copyrights to the symbol belong to the state, and the rights are exercised by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.
The purpose of use of the symbol is notification of consumers regarding the fact that a device bearing the symbol possesses verified qualities that ensure reception of Estonian national television programme services and thus supports a smooth and reasonable transition to complete digital television. The trademark “Digilevi” is used as a general name for television transmission in the DVB-T format carried out on the territory of the Republic of Estonia.
The prerequisite for use of the symbol is that marked devices have been certified by the network operator, Levira Ltd, as being compatible with the Estonian DVB-T network.
Certifing of standalone Set-Top-Boxes (STB) and integrated TV-sets (iDTV) is priced service.
Testing of the receivers will be carried out in the Levira Ltd testlab.
After successful passing of tests Levira will issue a compliance certificate. This certificate is a bases for the network operator - Levira and applicant signing a licensing agreement with regard to the right to use the Digilevi symbol on a compatible device.
All information about tested receivers will be published on a Digilevi homepage www.digilevi.ee
Use of the Digilevi symbol is free of charge for companies and organizations that have received a permit or signed an agreement.
Additionally it is possible to leave the receiver sample in a Levira testlab, to quarantee the compatibilty with a network after changes and/or updates of the network.
